Preface

Gina kept getting a glimpse of the woman that was following her in the street shop windows. Like Gina, she was pushing a chic black stroller and seemed to have the same strawberry blonde hair swept back in a ponytail. They even appeared to be twins, but this woman was hunched over with sagging boobs and an infinite wasitline. Gina finally shrugged her off and walked into the liquor store.

Alex pulled into his driveway at 4:15pm like he does every Monday. Sometimes it’s 4:20 if he doesn’t beat the buses out of the school bus loop. The only time he doesn’t beat the buses out of the school bus loop is if Mrs. Kindert stops him to see how he is “handling” his divorce. Since she is also divorced, she knows exactly what he is going through and is always on call should he ever feel the need to talk to somebody. She also mentions she would love for him to play the cello for her sometime, and suggests a private concert at her place. He always declines.

Skip has worked at the liquor store for two weeks. It’s his first job after being let out of his two-week stay in jail for a DUI. Nobody seemed to care too much about his latest career choice. In fact, the only person that cares about Skip at all is the girl that works at the McDonalds drive-thru three blocks down from the liquor store. Her name is Daisy and she always gives Skip two extra packets of sweet and sour sauce. Even though her boss told her to be scant with them. She never knew what “scant” meant anyway.

Gloria stopped at her husband’s grave to change the flowers. Now that it’s fall, she decided the landscape had to be more earthy. Rob had been diagnosed with cancer only 6 months after her own diagnosis. She had been given a year to live and him only 3 months. So far in her 55 years she had lost two breasts, a son and a husband. Her own headstone had been ordered and would eventually be placed next to Jim and Rob’s. Today she would be meeting with the funeral director to discuss final arrangements and then have lunch with her daughter, Emily.
